The city of Hirosaki lies in the far North of Japan in Aomori Prefecture on the main island of Honshu. Hirosaki is famous for its castle, which was built by Tamenobu, a member of the Tsugaru family. Hirosaki castle was completed in 1611. Though founded during the time of much warfare, Hirosaki went on to be a peaceful city during the Edo period. Hirosaki is now a modern city that enjoys a thriving economy and rich cultural history.

Hirosaki has been home to the Kageyama's (Miyuki's family) for many generations. While it doesn't have the excitement of Tokyo, Hirosaki is home to many legends and tales related to its historical past, like the story of the Hirosaki River Throat Stealing Witch. Legend says that she will steal your voice if you speak ill of the river. The odd thing is that she not only takes your voice but also your throat. It's not uncommon, late at night to come across a man or woman without a throat.
